Chief of Staff

About the role

Bake AI works across AI research, evaluation, agents, and infrastructure. We are looking for a Chief of Staff to work directly with our teams on the decisions, projects, and operating foundations that move the company forward.

You will turn open questions into clear recommendations, lead important projects across teams, and make sure decisions lead to action. The work requires moving comfortably between company strategy and the details of execution, while understanding how research, engineering, and business priorities connect.

We are looking for someone with sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a strong sense of ownership. You should be comfortable entering unfamiliar territory, asking precise questions, and carrying work through to a useful result.

What you’ll do

  • Work with our teams to clarify priorities, evaluate trade-offs, and turn decisions into concrete plans with clear owners and milestones.
  • Lead special projects from initial investigation through delivery, particularly when the work crosses teams or does not yet have an established owner.
  • Investigate strategic questions and opportunities. Gather evidence, speak with the relevant people, and write concise recommendations that make assumptions and uncertainties explicit.
  • Connect work across research, engineering, and company operations. Identify dependencies early, surface blockers, and bring the right people together to resolve them.
  • Establish a practical rhythm for planning and reviewing progress. Keep commitments visible and follow through when priorities change or work stalls.
  • Prepare clear materials for important internal and external discussions, translating complex work accurately for different audiences.
  • Improve recurring operational processes and take ownership of gaps as they emerge. Build approaches that make the team more effective and can be handed over as responsibilities become established.

What you’ll bring

  • Evidence of taking an ambiguous, consequential project from an initial question to a completed outcome. You can explain the decisions you made and the results you personally owned.
  • Strong judgment about priorities, trade-offs, and when to act independently or seek additional input.
  • Clear, concise writing and the ability to synthesize incomplete or conflicting information into a useful recommendation.
  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort working with data, budgets, and operating metrics to evaluate options.
  • Enough technical fluency to follow research and engineering discussions, ask useful questions, and communicate constraints accurately.
  • The ability to earn trust across functions, handle sensitive information with discretion, and follow through on commitments.
  • A practical, adaptable approach to work: you can define a plan, do the detailed work, and change course when the evidence calls for it.

Preferred experience

  • Building or operating within a technology company, research organization, or a venture of your own.
  • Working closely with founders or technical leaders through a period of growth or change.
  • Owning projects involving company planning, partnerships, hiring, or business operations.

How to apply
